Rough Journey, Smooth Spirit (a message to the graduates of 2016)

We all long for a carefree life. We long for a smooth car ride. But sometimes the shock absorbers in our vehicles need to be changed.

The same is true in our daily life. We all long for a carefree easy ride through life. But the journey never goes smooth all the way.

Today in my town of Montevideo, Minnesota the high school held its graduation ceremony. Now, I am dating myself here and if you are good at math it won’t take you long to figure out my age. But, I graduated twenty-two years ago!! And in the graduates of this year’s class that I know, I see the same passion and drive and determination to help the world and leave their mark!!!

My friends, the journey is never fully smooth. Just like a car, the human journey has breakdowns along the way. Trust me, I have had my share of breakdowns and wrong turns, dead ends and go back and start agains. But I have a faith in a higher power that is leading me every step of the way, so I don’t have to fear when the rough and rocky terrains come. And my graduating friends, you have access to the same mighty power!! God belongs to those who seek Him.

When the smooth journey gets rough, and it will, seek Him who holds our futures in His Hand. Here’s to a rough journey and a smooth spirit.
