The invention of the Sandwhich came from the need to have lunch while on the move. Put whatever you want between two pieces of bread and you can typically carry it with you where ever you go!!
Of course, there are days I like a full, messy sandwich that falls apart or needs to be eaten with a knife and fork!
My wife? She loves the veggie route. All the fixin’s from Subway minus lettuce and jalapeños with Chipotle Southwest sauce. She loves it!! Me? I accidentally ate a half once when I thought it was mine. Quite a bit spicy for my tastes, but it was good.
We love the drive thru option. Why do we do that? Here in America we are always looking to keep moving. I guess that is why some of us are called ‘Sharks’. And sandwiches can often help us do that.
But wouldn’t it be nice to slow down for a meal on a plate? In some other countries a meal is a time to enjoy family and friends. I often wonder, do other countries eat as many sandwiches as we do? Do other countries have to have everything from the ‘to-go’ menu? Why must we always move?
Ferris Bueller once said, ‘Life moves pretty fast. If you don’t stop and slow down once in a while, you could miss it.’ And yet we always try to move fast and keep things going 24/7. The sandwich is not to blame for that, but it was made to accomplish that goal.
