We all have to wait for things. It’s funny, isn’t it? We are an instant gratification population now. Dane Cook did a comedy sketch on the trouble with waiting once. I will warn you, there is some language to it, I mean, it’s Dane Cook, so… Here it is.
Then we have the patient side of waiting in anticipation. As a Christian, I am waiting on the return of my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Does that mean I just stand around with my arms folded or my hands in my pockets like I am waiting for a bus? No. There are things to do, my friends!
If you are waiting on Jesus to facilitate miracles, you could be waiting a long time!! I have seen the notion going around, ‘Well, Jesus will fix this. We need to just be patient and wait on Him to do something.’ Yeah, no. Pretty sure we are to be His Hands and Feet. He commissioned us to do those things before He ascended to Heaven.
You know that family down the street waiting on a miracle? What if you are that miracle? What if you can provide what they need? What about that coworker who is away from home because they are in college, or here from another country? You could invite them to do something so they aren’t waiting to find friends. Be the change. Be the friend.
Here in America everyone is anxiously awaiting Thanksgiving tomorrow in wild anticipation! Turkey, stuffing, pies, mashed potatoes, a cornucopia of delicious food!! But not everyone gets that. What about the lonely man or woman who’s spouse of sixty years passed away, and now they are waiting in anticipation for their family to drop into the nursing home to say hello? What about the homeless who have to live in a shelter? They anticipate one more good meal, or a conversation with a human being. We all could be that person anticipating a friendly gesture from someone, somewhere. It can happen to anyone of us at any time.
We all anticipate something. I want to encourage you to be good to the world today. If you see someone waiting on something, ask them how you can help. Don’t stand idly by and let our world continue to lose its faith. Anticipate the great King Of Kings who is coming, if you know Him, and share Him with a world that so desperately needs His Love and Grace.
