What does acceptance feel like? How does that differ from resignation?
I was born with Spina Bifida. It is so much more than I am just sitting down in a wheelchair like most people say, in an attempt to try to help me feel better, of course. There is a lot of stuff that comes along with Spina Bifida. Things that are out of my control. I have accepted that, most days. There are still days that infections or thugs out of my control get me frustrated. It happens.
Does this mean that I am going to stop working for Walmart and D.J.ing? No way!! I will not resign to things that I want even because of things out of my control.
Case in point, Michael J. Fox. We all know him as the loveable Alex P. Keaton on Family Ties. We have known him from other sitcoms and from the Back To The Future Series which everyone here in America now likes to say is actually happening, especially BTTF 2. He once said an excellent quote that puts acceptance and resignation in the perfect light. And I totally agree from the standpoint of a completely different disability.
Every problem has an answer. Another saying I hate is The textbook definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result. That’s how we grow! That’s how we dig deeper. We throw that shovel or axe into the ground and rock and chip away and dig deeper. I think that is what Mr. Fox is saying too. When we come across a problem we need to dig in because there is no such thing as a problem with no solution. We need to accept that reality and get to work. Find what needs to be done and do it.
