I have experienced standing ovations. I think every child has, at one time or another, experienced a standing ovation at least from their parents.
Praise becomes a craved demon. We applaud behaviors when we agree with them and we demonize them when we disagree with the behavior. But, what if we are doing more harm than good?
There is an old saying that says, ‘Pride comes before a fall.’. Padme‘ Amidala said in Revenge Of The Sith, ‘So, this is how liberty dies, with thunderous applause.’ I have seen it more and more online, people standing by and watching a fight, or someone watching someone getting bullied and cheering on the bully. It’s sick! Why have we turned a corner where we applaud such ludacris behavior? I simply do not get it. Thirty years ago when I was growing up, I would have been swatted and grounded for weeks if I spoke to my parents or an authority figure, or broke out in fights the way young people do today. What has changed? Could it be the everybody gets a trophy mentality?
We need to get back to the days when we praise good things and punish negative behaviors no matter how inconsequential we believe them to be. When you harm another, or take away their right to live their life and do what they need to do to make society better, you need to pay a consequence.
You can choose to do whatever you want, but you will never become free from the consequences of those actions. Are you sowing positive actions that will grow into positive reactions for either yourself or God-willing others today? If so, I commend you and applaud you. We need to work toward a better world and that takes applauding that which is good, and right, and true. That is the only way to stop the slippery slope of our own downfall. Is your applause directed in the right areas today? Think on it and make the necessary changes if needed.
