Earlier today it was reported that a very popular actor took a course of action and committed words used against The President Of The United States. As Major Dick Winters character in Band Of Brothers said to Captain Soble, ‘Captain Soble, we salute the rank, not the man.’ And I want to encourage everyone who may read this today.
Our country is in bad shape. We are so divided I honestly don’t ever see us repairing the damage that has been done. We have regressed back to The Civil War era when it was brother against brother. We have. Look around and you will see it is true. Race wars. Hate crimes. General crimes. Lack of respect. Lack of dignity. Lack of direction. Lack of common ground. I could go on for hours about what we are lacking right now, but I digress.
My point is this, somewhere along the way we become comfortable with the notion that everything is right. If I want to say it or do it, I don’t care. If it doesn’t hurt me, I don’t care. I don’t care if it hurts you. Every conversation these days is walked on egg shells and it is time to stop!
This morning a famous actor spoke out against our President. Now, I do not give one crap if you are for or against our president, but when you commit in words that he should be assassinated, you have committed a crime against these United States. I do not care if it was a joke. I do not care if it was said tongue in cheek. The point is, it was thought, and it was said. It was committed in words, if not yet in deeds by someone. And that, my friends, is just as bad as the action itself.
We live in a world where we now let our passions and convictions speak our minds. Think before speak? Nope. We don’t have to anymore. Everyone is entitled to their thoughts, words, and actions. And so, I am committed to more love. I am committed to more understanding. I am committed to more helping, in my own home and my neighbors. We need to put our moods in check and help our fellow men!!
This morning I had a friend who has a couple kids upset because she was losing her assistance. I get it, I totally do! What do I do now? Was her question. I stepped out on a very shaky limb and said, depend on your fellow human beings. We are not meant to depend on the government. So, it’s time we stop. Respect the office. Respect what it is meant to do. And help it get back to its original intent. Bring us together to all have a voice and be heard. Does that mean there will not need to be any compromise? No. But in order to see a compromise through we must, WE MUST be committed to what is best for even those who oppose us. Work together. Indivisible. Undivided. Together. One Nation. I commit that to you today.
Will you join me? And maybe, just maybe, we can put this nation back together and respect the notions it was built upon. One Nation, Indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.
