Tonight I attended my wife’s work appreciation supper. We went to a local place called Valentino’s. There was appreciation given for those who had assisted at the nursing home for 5, 10, 15, 20 years. And then they jumped to 35 and 40!!! I believe there was a couple ladies who have given their service and their combined time added to 110 years!! Wow!! I haven’t even been alive long enough to have worked HALF of that time!!! Amazing.
The food was good. The company and companions are all awesome, but for me the highlight of the night came from the speaker. A woman who had lost her arms and legs due to a bad infection. She gave a speech on attitude and never giving up. Seriously, I wish I could remember the exact details, but totally inspiring!
Attitude is everything. If you have a bad attitude, you’ll have bad results. If you think you can’t do it, you won’t. Then she mentioned 3 C’s, one of which was Courage. I knew I should have taken notes or written this much earlier. Her name is Jan.
Talk about appreciation though. A radio broadcaster who doesn’t have hands or feet, but consistently sees herself in service of others. And tonight, of all nights to have this opportunity to hear this speech was awe inspiring to say the absolute least!
Tomorrow we remember the day that Jesus Christ was crucified. If you don’t already know, that’s not the end of the story. He is RISEN, my friends!!! And one day He will return to take those of us who believe in Him to Eternity to be with Him. I will walk through the gates of Heaven and Jan’s arms and legs will be restored. No more death and no more tears. I like to believe in Heaven I will spend my eternity driving tractors and being a farmer. It has been one of my passions that I have not been able to have happen as nearly as often as I wish in this life. But, I will persevere and will continue until that day.
I want you to know tonight, you have an amazing gift in you. God has instilled in each of us a way to change the world around us for His glory. Sadly, a majority of us don’t know we have them or don’t know how to use them. God has given us all we need to make this world a great place for all human beings and animals. We need to find our gifts and be centered on Him. Can we do that?
